Proposed learning objectives

  • Start with the customer and the problem
  • Connect value to delivery
  • Consider resources and costs together

Who this is for

Students, project founders and teams looking to structure a business model.

Preparing to participate

Bring an idea and questions about customers, value and costs; the required level will be agreed when adapting the program.

Methodology

Needs assessment, interactive examples and exercises, and work on a model linked to the project.

Program topics to adapt

Start with the customer and the problem

Choose a specific segment and describe the problem in its language. Record evidence from an interview or observation and distinguish it from a team assumption. Without evidence, write a question to investigate rather than a certain answer.

Connect value to delivery

Describe what changes for the customer through the solution and how they access the service. Examine whether the proposed channel fits their behavior and who will do the work needed to deliver value.

Consider resources and costs together

For each important activity, record the resource, estimated cost and source of that estimate. Do not present a hypothetical number as a financial fact. Where price or volume is unknown, label it as an assumption to compare or test.
